TARA LIPINSKI ASKS BFF JOHNNY WEIR TO BE HER 'BRIDESMAN' WITH AN ADORABLE CUSTOM MUG
POSTED BY ANGIE ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2016

When Tara Lipinski walks down the aisle next year, she'll have one of the most important men in her life by her side – her BFF Johnny Weir.

On Monday, Weir shared a beautiful snap of a custom mug Lipinski had made for him to ask him to be her "bridesman."

"When @taralipinski asks you to be her bridesmaid, you say yes. Can't wait to go on this amazing journey with you lovebug. And yes, that's totally us on the mug," he captioned the photo.

The Olympic-winning figure skater also revealed last week she's chosen celebrity-favorite Reem Acra to design her wedding dress.

"Flashing back to that time I met my dream designer. I'm still pinching myself that @reem_acra is custom designing the most important dress I will ever wear!" Lipinski excitedly captioned a photo of herself.

Lipinski announced her engagement to Fox Sports producer Todd Kapostasy late last year. In May, the duo celebrated their happy news with an engagement party at Mr. C Beverly Hills.

"Todd and I have been living up the engaged life but now to celebrate with all of our friends and family at our engagement party it finally feels so real and official!" she wrote on Instagram.

And yes, Weir was also in attendance to help celebrate the couple. "What a perfect night to celebrate such a perfect couple," he captioned a photo of himself with his friends.

Sure, Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky might be dominating their competition, but no one is winning in Rio quite like Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir. The former figure skaters-turned-NBC commentators are living it up and providing one of the most entertaining Instagram accounts from the Olympics.

TARA LIPINSKI AND JOHNNY WEIR'S SHOE STYLE AT THE RIO OLYMPICS
POSTED BY ANGIE ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 2016

Former Olympians Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir have been stepping out in style while carrying out their duties as NBC commentators during the Rio Olympics.

While at the NBC studios on Sunday, Lipinski shared a photo of Rio de Janeiro’s sweeping views and name-dropped her outfit’s designers.

“View from atop Rio via@nbcolympics studio! Jacket by@trinaturk Shoes by @stevemadden,” she captioned the Instagram photo.

The ice princess had on a colorful Tina Turk jacket, skinny jeans and a pair of Steve Madden caged heels.

The brand’s Slithur shoes feature a strappy caged upper and a 4.25-inch stiletto heel, retailing for $85.95 online.

When the Rio Olympic Games kicked off Aug. 5, Lipinski made sure to bring plenty of stylish options for hosting NBC’s segments through Aug. 21.

“Lots of ‘just in case’ options,” she told her Instagram fans, joking that she had “enough clothes for six months” when she arrived in Brazil’s coastal city.

After wrapping a presentation on Brazil’s Carnival, Lipinski donned a pair of nude Christian Louboutin Academa cut-out pumps alongside Weir, who had on sparkling crystal-embellished Louis Leeman slippers.

“So fun presenting our Carnival piece,” she captioned an Instagram photo on Saturday.

Some other styles Lipinski has worn include Valentino’s Rockstud Leather City sandal, Nike sneakers and snakeskin pumps.

Meanwhile, Weir has been adding a touch of glamour to the Rio Olympic Games coverage, too.

The ice-skater has been documenting his “look of the day” on Instagram, featuring Maison Margiela lace-up shoes, Adidas Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto dive wedges, Dries Van Noten boots, Rick Owens wedges, Stella McCartney, Comme des Garcons and Isetan.

HOW TARA LIPINSKI PLANS HER SUMMER OLYMPICS FASHION FOR RIO WITH JOHNNY WEIR
POSTED BY ANGIE ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 4, 2016

Olympic figure skater Tara Lipinski hasn't been this out of breath since taking home the gold in Nagano, Japan, in 1998. The reason? She's packing what only can be described as enough suitcases to fill three or four of Carrie Bradshaw's closets (the movie versions, by the way). "I'm walking back and forth packing, so if I sound out of breath, that's why!" jokes the 34-year-old NBC correspondent.

This Friday in Rio de Janeiro, Lipinski will get to kick off her first Summer Olympics as a culture correspondent for NBC, cohosting fashion, culture, and behind-the-scenes segments with BFF and fellow figure skater Johnny Weir. Together, the two have not only redefined color commentary, but on-air fashion in the process. "Johnny and I are literally packing everything!" she says. (And she's not joking—just wait till you see the photos she sent us below!) "I’m slightly concerned this time because in Sochi we packed a lot, but this time it’s double. I’ve somehow added two more suitcases and a box. We'll be in Rio for three and a half weeks, which will call for three or four changes a day."

So, what are Lipinski's fashion secrets? And just how does she coordinate her ensembles so perfectly with Weir? We got the lowdown on all that and more.

Glamour: You and Johnny must plan out your outfits like most people plan out a seating chart at a wedding.

Tara Lipinski:
We actually don’t. He’s in Pennsylvania and I’m in Los Angeles, so we don’t get to collaborate one-on-one in person. But we talk a lot and discuss colors and fun things we want to do, and then we just bring everything. To try and figure it out in advance is [pointless] because we just never know. That’s why we bring everything. It’s usually the night before when we go into each other’s rooms and start pulling stuff to wear. When I first met Johnny, he wore all these crazy outfits, and what, three years later, I look at these outfits and they are totally normal! Nothing outrageous about it. I know his style and I think he knows what I like, and we love to match obviously. We get each other’s styles and we just try to match for whatever we’re doing that day.

Glamour: Does Johnny help you pick out outfits, and vice-versa?

Tara:
Yes. Johnny is so calming and he knows me so well by now that he can just look at me and be like, ‘OK, OK.’ Usually he’ll walk in in the morning and if I’m on the bed saying, ‘I have nothing to wear!’ even with six suitcases of clothes, Johnny will come in and be like, ‘OK, OK, I’ll fix this!’ [Laughs]

Glamour: Do you have any rules, or does anything go?

Tara:
Anything goes pretty much. NBC has been so awesome. They let us go to town and have fun. I know the things Johnny hates, or the colors he doesn’t like, and he knows the same of me, and that way there aren’t many surprises when we arrive. I love my dresses and a good A-line cinch at the waist. He’s always checking in on me.

Glamour: What’s the most outrageous thing you’ve packed so far in your suitcase for Rio?

Tara:
There’s so many! I worked with Eugenia Kim for my hats, and I’m bringing quite a few. There’s some new shoes. I’m working with Trina Turk. Coming into the Olympics, you have so many outfit changes, that the process of preparing for it has been months and months and working with different designers. I’m working with designer Vivian Chan, and there’s this skirt I know Johnny is going to love with this netting around it. I have a lot of bright colors, so it’s going to be fun. We mix and match our jewelry too!

Glamour: What’s on your must-buy list when you get to Rio?

Tara:
We went out there in February, and thought we’d have more time to shop and see local designers, but we didn’t. I can’t wait to find items from local Brazilian designers.

Glamour: By the way, please tell me NBC gives you a budget to buy clothes. You don’t have to buy this yourself, right?

Tara:
Yes.

Glamour: You have to buy it all yourself?

Tara:
Yes! [Laughs]

Glamour: Do designers lend you stuff at least?

Tara:
Yes, we are very lucky to work with designers [who lend us clothes], and that’s the best part. For months in advance, we’re cultivating all these looks, and making relationships with designers, and kind of pulling pieces.

Glamour: How many months have you been planning your looks for Rio?

Tara:
Since February. We were in Rio for 12 days then to shoot stuff for NBC, and once we got back to the states, we started.

Glamour: What do you wear on the plane to Rio?

Tara:
I bring two outfits! I like to dress up when I go to the outfits, but on overseas flights especially, I’ll go into the airport and then change and be comfy. There’s these Michael Lauren sweatpants that I’m obsessed with in these great colors. They come in fun patterns and things, so I’ve been addicted to them, and that’s my comfy gear once I get on the plane. I love a good pair of sweats!

Glamour: What other travel secrets do you have?

Tara:
Johnny and I bring steamers! And Johnny is the ultimate gentleman, so he steams all of my clothes. When we pick out our outfits for the next day, he takes it in [to his room] and steams it. Obviously he’s my best friend, but he’s so genuinely caring. That’s the best thing about traveling with someone who’s your best friend, and who gets it. [Laughs]

TARA LIPINSKI AND JOHNNY WEIR ARE THE FUTURE OF SPORTS COMMENTATING
POSTED BY ANGIE ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 4, 2016

Just like live sports action is evolving in its delivery and presentation, so is the business of commenting on sports.

That future is being led–in a hugely successful way–by Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski. I recall watching the former ice skaters–Lipinski won gold at the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano and Weir is a three-time U.S. champion–during the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi when they debuted.

They were extremely informative and fun, had great chemistry, but not overbearing. In short, their focus was about making their commentary enjoyable for viewers, not about impressing the audience with how much they knew, could say, or taking themselves too seriously. Hey, I’m no big ice skating fan–but I loved it! So did my wife and then seven-year-old daughter. The talent of Weir and Lipinski captured three very different audiences in one house.

They both are big social media stars, too, an extremely important facet for connecting with younger audiences. The social media prowess of Weir caught fire during last year’s Kentucky Derby (he and Lipinski were charged with covering fashion at the race) when his hat “Pegasus” prompted massive amounts of social engagement across all platforms.

Digital delivery is increasing and social media helps drive audiences to NBC’s platforms. At the Rio Olympics, NBC is boasting “its most comprehensive social media plan ever,” a 24/7 effort that includes partnerships with Snapchat, Buzzfeed, Facebook FB +0.59% and Instagram. Totally engaged with their audiences, Weir and Lipinski are the perfect fit.

Great brands–especially for commentators–travel well regardless of the sport. So it was a smart move by NBC to use the duo for this past Super Bowl.

Now, NBC Sports is using Lipinski and Weir to cover fashion for the Rio Summer Olympics. Kudos to NBC for realizing what the two bring to the table. They are the future. The rest of us can learn a lot from them.

TARA LIPINSKI'S ROAD TO RIO INCLUDES GOLDFISH SNACKS AND MIU MIU SHADES
POSTED BY ANGIE ON MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2016

The American figure skater and NBC Olympics correspondent — best known for being the youngest Olympic gold medalist in the ladies’ single figure skating event, in 1998 — reveals what she’s bringing along to Rio.

When it comes to clothing, Brazil is known for its "less is more" mentality — this is a country with a skimpy bikini bottom named after it, after all.

So what’s a girl to pack? Tara Lipinski gave Pret-a-Reporter the scoop on her Rio wardrobe ahead of the Olympics official Opening Ceremony taking place on Friday, Aug. 5.

Lipinski and Johnny Weir, her NBC culture correspondent co-host for the 2016 Olympic Games, made waves at the 2014 Sochi games for overpacking (as if there’s such a thing), by bringing along a combined eight suitcases. So considering it’s a warm climate south of the equator, is she bringing a lighter load?

“It looks worse,” said Lipinski. "It’s so much more. I’m bringing two extra suitcases and a box this time. I don’t know how it got so out of control, but it just did... Obviously we overpacked [at Sochi], but now we’re really not sure what we might need.”

It’s the middle of winter in Rio, but the sun’s still shining, so sunglass style will be crucial for hosts. Matt Lauer of The Today Show has reported thus far from Rio while wearing a stylish pair of Ray-Ban Wayfayers. Lipinski will bring her A-game with "twelve pairs of sunglasses — I have some good ones." Tom Ford, Miu Miu and Ray-Ban sunnies are just a few of the designer shades she’ll be rocking on camera.

The former Olympian is not afraid of wearing colorful looks, either, and for three-and-a-half weeks of travel, the host needs to bring as many jewelry options as possible.

As for the Zika Virus, Lipinski's not sweating it. “Johnny and I were actually in Rio this February shooting some features, and I brought a lot of bug repellent — that’s really the only difference," she said of her prep routine. "So, I’m bringing that again and I’m also bringing Avon’s Skin So Soft — I’m going to [alternate between them] so it’s not like cans of Off! and Skeet everyday.”

Packing snacks is also crucial not just to ease hunger pangs, but also homesickness. And if you’re expecting raw food bars and gluten-free anything — think again. “I love Goldfish, I’m like a four-year-old. Goldfish and chocolate.” Double Chocolate Milano Cookies, Peanut Butter M&M’s and Dove Chocolate also made their way into Lipinski's snack suitcase.

Lipinski and Weir launched a podcast ahead of the games, sounding off on topics in pop culture, fashion and sports. The first episode goes over all the opening ceremony costumes for all the countries. Team U.S.A.’s Ralph Lauren uniform gets the pair's stamp of approval: "Ralph Lauren is Ralph Lauren and I feel like he always comes to the party and he’s the best-dressed one there. I think Ralph Lauren nails it.”

TARA LIPINSKI IS GIVING US A FIGURE SKATING SHOW
POSTED BY ANGIE ON MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2016

Figure skating is by far the greatest Olympic sport. It has everything: coordinated outfits! Massive egos! Campiness! Triple axels! Rhinestones! Sabotage! But, for some reason, nobody has managed to turn the glamour and treachery of figure skating into a good fictional TV show. Until now.

According to Deadline, 1998 Olympic champion and expert shade-thrower Tara Lipinski is joining forces with producer Michael Shamberg and writer Jonathan Igla (who wrote for Mad Men, so you know it's going to be classy) for a new Hulu show about the cutthroat world of competitive figure skating.

Your new favorite show doesn’t have a name yet, but it will center on a group of teens and 20-somethings training for the Olympics, “who sacrifice normal life for that sweepstakes shot at immortality that comes around every four years in front of a global audience.” So: Gossip Girl on ice? Friday Night Lights on ice? Whatever it is, it's going to be on ice, and it's going to be dramatic.

"To the average observer, figure skating appears to be an extremely elegant and undeniably beautiful sport — and for good reason. But when you begin to peel back the layers of this world, a more complex, and even shocking, picture emerges,” Lipinski said in a statement. “I want to paint an authentic picture of the highs and the lows and the price that some people pay to be part of this world.”

The gods have truly blessed us on this day.

TARA LIPINSKI CELEBRATES HER ENGAGEMENT TO FIANCE TODD KAPOSTASY
POSTED BY ANGIE ON MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2016

Olympic sweetheart Tara Lipinski celebrated her engagement to fiancé Todd Kapostasy yesterday at Mr. C Beverly Hills. Wedding Paper Divas’ Style Partner, and wedding planner to the stars, Mindy Weiss planned the bash, and Wedding Paper Divas hosted the fete. Lipinski said, “Due to our hectic work schedules, Todd and I aren’t able to officially tie the knot until 2017 but we couldn’t wait that long to celebrate. Having an engagement party was a great chance for our friends and family to get to know each other better and get excited for the big day. I had a blast collaborating with Wedding Paper Divas and my wedding planner Mindy Weiss on our engagement party.”

Mindy and WPD teamed up to celebrate the bride and groom to be with a chic celebration - the space was filled with beautiful and elegant white and gold accents, personalized details like adorable cocktail napkins from WPD, trays from Shutterfly, and blossoming hydrangeas throughout.

Tara Lipinski and Todd Kapostasy’s sports roots brought them together — they first met when Olympic figure skating champion Tara handed sports producer Todd a Sports Emmy on stage. So Tara and Todd played a really sweet homage to their love story at their engagement celebration.

Their engagement party was custom for them but other couples can duplicate an equally special experience. WPD Style and Trend Expert Amber Harrison and Mindy Weiss gave tips on how to incorporating your love story into your event like Tara and Todd did:

The color theme. The couple chose white and gold as their central color theme. The gold was inspired by Tara’s Olympic medal and Todd’s Emmy. Choose a color you love or that means something to you.

The invites. The gorgeous Wedding Paper Divas invites featured a painting that Todd commissioned of him proposing to Tara — which was central to their proposal story. The image was also featured on some decorative acrylic trays by Shutterfly. Custom art is always special to commemorate a special event.

The photo booth. Guests were treated to some specialty props at the photo booth, including an Olympic gold medal and an Emmy award (both fake, of course!). Adding an element of fun is great, especially for an engagement party that is more casual than the wedding will be.

No signs of peach! Peach has been bad luck color for Tara since her competitive days, so Mindy and team steered clear of the hue in the decor. Knowing what you don’t want is as important as knowing what you want, make a list of no’s for your planners or hosts.

Keep it simple. If you have a great venue, accent what you have instead of going overboard with decor and taking away from the natural beauty of the space. Using white flowers in the elegant space highlighted the beauty of the Mr. C Beverly Hills space.

Don’t forget about the details. Personal touches and small details will make the most minimal decor come to life without breaking the bank such as Tara and Todd’s custom trays from Shutterfly.

Let your personalities shine. Use menu items, favors, photo booth props and more to get personal with your guests get into the spirit and celebrate your love.

Weiss said, “The lovebirds also used their menu to share their favorite treats with guests and reveal more details about themselves. They had a huge assortment of their favorite desserts - banana bread pudding for Tara and mint for Todd - as well as cake pops covered in edible glitter, warm chocolate chip cookies with milk served in shot glasses and a coveted coolhaus ice cream sandwich station.”

GET A GLIMPSE INTO OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST TARA LIPINSKI'S ENGAGEMENT PARTY
POSTED BY ANGIE ON MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2016

Olympic medalist Tara Lipinski brought home the gold for the United States in the 1998 ladies’ singles figure skating competition, but now, she’s taking on a different kind of adventure – saying “I do!” Tara and fiancé Todd Kapostasy have been engaged since last year, and the pair was ecstatic to be able to celebrate their upcoming nuptials with an engagement fête in Beverly Hills on Saturday (May 21st, 2016). “Due to our hectic work schedules, Todd and I aren’t able to officially tie the knot until 2017, but we couldn’t wait that long to celebrate,” Tara shares. “Having an engagement party was a great chance for our friends and family to get to know each other better and get excited for the big day.”

With the help of celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss, Tara selected an elegant white-and-gold concept for her event, hosted by Wedding Paper Divas, and filled the space with simple, low floral arrangements in shades of ivory. The event also featured a sentimental painting of the moment Todd proposed to Tara, which appeared on the invitations and serving trays, as well as the couple’s custom Snapchat filter created for the party. Guests enjoyed celebrating with the happy couple through lively dancing, and a personalized photo booth that featured specialty props – including a fake gold medal to honor Tara and a fake Emmy to honor Todd’s sports Emmy.

Mindy was thrilled to put together such a sophisticated celebration of love and commitment. “Tara and Todd decided on a clean aesthetic with lots of white and touches of gold,” tells Mindy. “Personal details brought the décor to life, sharing their love story with guests through custom napkins stamped with their names in gold foil and [the] fun photo booth with interactive backdrops – including an ice rink! – that allowed guests to create their own animated GIFs with [the] props.” When it came to deciding upon the culinary options, Tara and Todd had a very clear vision. “The lovebirds used their menu to share their favorite treats with guests; they had a huge assortment of their favorite desserts – banana bread pudding for Tara and mint for Todd – as well as cake pops covered in edible glitter, warm chocolate chip cookies with milk served in shot glasses, and an ice cream sandwich station. Everyone with a sweet tooth was in heaven!”

When it comes to coordinating a refined engagement fête, Mindy had some expert tips and tricks vital to the process.

- “You can keep it simple, but not sparse. If you have a great venue, accent what you have instead of going overboard with décor and taking away from the natural beauty of the space.”

- “Don’t forget about the details. Personal touches and small details will make the most minimal décor come to life without breaking the bank.”

- “Let your personalities shine. Use menu items, favors, photo booth props, and more to share personal help your guests get into the spirit and celebrate YOU!”

All in all, Tara was thrilled with the soirée. “It was incredible to celebrate with all our family and friends but some of my favorite moments were on the dance floor. My custom dress had a full skirt that detached to reveal a fitting mini dress, allowing for lots of dancing with Todd and some fun choreography with [fellow Olympian] Johnny [Weir!]”
